D: Drawing

We are fully in Halloween mode at the Kawaii Drawing Club®. 😊

But we are spicing things up with not just drawing a few spooky-cute characters, but actually MAKING something with them!

Here is our first project – a candy pattern. 🍬

Our KDC members had a full step-by-step LIVE Masterclass on how to draw these cute sweets, and how to compose them into a pattern.

And then, many members even made product mock-ups with their art!

How fun. 🥰

I decided to put my pattern onto a phone case.

Have you ever tried making a seamless repeat pattern in Procreate? 😅

It's quite a few steps...

I usually use Photoshop to make patterns (it has an amazing "Pattern Preview" feature that makes it easier to see the whole pattern as I am designing).

But if you don't have Photoshop, I found a Canva app that can help with patterns.

It can generate AI patterns (if you are into it).

But you can also upload your own graphics and lay them out. 😊

A: Affirmation

There is a quote in the movie "Anonymous" by Earl of Oxford, where he said:

"All art is political, Jonson, otherwise it would just be decoration."

When I first heard it, I kinda agreed...

But not anymore.

To seek beauty through line and color...
To create images that elevate space and bring joy to people...
To bring beauty into everyday life, into your home...

What can be more meaningful?!!

I am ok with "just decoration". 😁

So here is this week's affirmation:

Beauty matters. Beauty is enough.

W: Wonder

In addition to my "work" art projects, I keep a list of projects I want to create "just because". 😊

I call them my "sparks". ✨

For example, I really REALLY want to make a folk art hoodie. I can literally see it in my mind's eye!

It doesn't fit into any current project I am doing 😆, but I keep it on a stickie note on my desk, so that I remember about it.

As soon as I have an opening, I will bring it to life.

So here is a question to wonder about:

I wonder... what would I LOVE to create? Not because it make sense, but simply because I WANT to.
